Fibre Artist Michelle Snowdon creates off-beat handspun yarn and accessories with her own handspun yarn. Michelle's playful inquiry with technique produces yarn with a modern twist, bringing a fresh, innovative design to her contemporary wearable pieces.
Her handspun yarn and wearables express a sense of playful character and style unsurpassed by mill-spun yarn alternatives.
Sustainable materials, processes and techniques are the driving-ethos behind Michelle's work practice. Wool is sourced both locally & Organically where possible, Peace Silk is harvested only when the moth has completed it's full life-cycle, dye's are non-toxic, and she produces each item every step of the way using antique technology: the humble spinning wheel.
"It begins with making extraordinary yarn, expressive textural threads ebb & flow, and loop together to become the fabric of a tactile experience for the wearer.
For the maker, hand-crafted yarn holds a story, 'threads' become a metaphor for life's journey.. every inch of yarn undulates with a living rhythm to create individual garments, beanies, & textile jewelry, gifts of pure warmth from my hands to yours"
